Inland Pipe

Canada’s largest producer of concrete pipe and manholes

Inland Pipe and sister companies, Ocean Pipe (British Columbia) and Hanson Pipe and Precast (Ontario & Quebec), combine to form the largest producer of concrete pipe and manholes in Canada. The Inland Pipe Spyhill facility in Calgary, Alberta is the most advanced precast drainage facility in North America. Inland Pipe became part of Lehigh Hanson Materials Limited in 2009, and in turn, part of HeidelbergCement Group headquartered in Germany.

Inland Pipe in Alberta

Inland Pipe’s history stretches back over 100 years to four Albertan construction companies who combined to become Consolidated Concrete. Consolidated stood out among local construction companies for having divisions in all aspects of construction including aggregate supply, cement, pumping, placing and finishing, block, and pipe manufacturing.

Consolidated Concrete merged with another large company to become Genstar in 1982. In 1992, the construction portion of the company demerged. The remaining pipe division was known as Hydropipe Systems, until 1996 when it became Inland Pipe Limited.

Inland Pipe in Saskatchewan and Manitoba

The company now known as Inland Pipe began in Winnipeg in the 1960’s. Preco was a small, family-operated distributor of building products. In the early 1970’s, British American Construction Materials (BACM) purchased Preco. BACM joined with Genstar in 1982. Genstar was in turn acquired by the Belgian cement company CBR. In 1992 the construction arm emerged and the pipe material supply division became known as Hydropipe Systems, becoming Inland Pipe Limited in 1996.
